UK SAM Networking Event - 1 May 2012

UK SAM and CM Networking Event – London – 1st May 2012 at 6pm

This is an independent event for SAM practitioners who share a passion for creating and sustaining SAM ‘best practice’ through benchmarking against quality standards, self-assessment and a program of continual improvement. For this event, we are joining with other members of the CMSG to discuss CM and SAM.

It includes end user organisations, market analysts, quality standards architects, technology vendors and service organisations, and we welcome new participants especially from end user organisations.

The main purpose of the event is to create an environment for healthy debate.

At the last SAM meeting the group expressed concerns over ISO 19770-1 in the marketplace, and also wanted to do things which influence the market place. We are pleased that Shirley Lacy will attend this meeting.

Shirley was co-author of the ITIL transition management book and has been a major influence in all ITIL, SAM, the ISO/IEC 20000 service management standard and other standards. She was responsible for getting SAM updated in the ITIL documentation and is she believes that ISO 19770 can have a great influence in the control of software. currently working on new versions of the ITIL standards where SAM will have an even greater influence.

She is a strong advocate of SAM and the standard and is keen to hear that the SAM group are looking to influence its acceptance.

Shirley has a very client focused perspective and her attendance at the meeting will help us to appreciate the opportunities for SAM and ISO 19770 as well as helping us to focus the meeting.

Due to its importance the whole meeting will be devoted to: SAM, ISO 19770-1 and its integration with Configuration management, the future and how our group can assist, while maintaining significant discussion time.

This is a rare opportunity that should be of interest to everyone so we urge you all to attend.

Event Structure

Our current format is to have a rotation of people organising the meetings and devote a large percentage of time to discussion.  In the March meeting there was a presentation on Outsourcing followed by a debate.

The value of ISO was also discussed so it will become the key topic for presentation at the forthcoming meeting.

For the May 1st meeting the format will be:

6:00 pm            Coffee and networking

6:45 pm            Choose topics for the group discussion

7:00 pm              Keynote discussion:

ISO 19770-1, its value, certification and promotion

by Barry Johnson and Shirley Lacy

7:40 pm            Refreshments

8:00 pm            Group discussion proposed topic - How SAM and ITIL configuration management fit together.

9:00 pm            Close

Agendas for future meetings will be based on attendee feedback so presentations will only be included if requested and agreed by attendees.
